Which old school
movie monster
do you most
identify with?
It’s no big revelation that the famous movie monsters of old have taken on the status of fairy tale and myth in our society. Their images are instantly recognizable, but each remains special and singular, representing different aspects of our social alienation. Here’s just a quick list:
Dracula: Unable to keep normal social hours, this suave man of leisure is a slave to his unquenchable addiction.
Wolfman: A nice normal person, until an outside influence causes him to lose his mind and become an animal.
Frankenstein*: A monstrosity built in a world that does not want it, it desires only love and receives only fear and hate.
The Creature: A nice guy if anyone ever took a moment to understand him, but no, those hot girls in white swimsuits always go for the jerks.
The Phantom: The ultimate fanboy, there is no end he will not go to in order to ensure the music he hears meets his full approval.
The Mummy: Aching bones make each journey a struggle.
Wicked Witch of the West: Do you know how hard it is to find a truly great pair of shoes?
There’s a lot of us in there to earn our empathy. Which old movie monster did you always find yourself cheering for?
*He decided to name himself after the dude who created him. Deal with it.
